New Science Unit Started in Second Grade!

Fixer Upper Science Program

All second graders at C.P.S. will be be part of a TV series Science Program which engages students in a "hands-on/minds-on" science program.  The program we are entering into has three parts...experiments, writing assignments, and a video component.
The students view a fifteen minute program two to four times each month. The video gets them thinking about various concepts and leaves them thinking about what is going to happen.  They need to complete a writing assignment (letter to one of the characters in the video), which shares their thoughts and opinions.  We also will be having several rotations to allow students the time for experiments with the properties of solids, liquids, etc. Thus far in addition to the video and writing parts, we have been working on properties for solids.
SHOW-The show is a story of a father (Lee) and a daughter (Keisha) who move into an apartment house and fix it up.  Along the way they make friends, encounter weird characters, and pursue answers to mysterious events.  The kids on the show model good scientific thinking as they explore the world around them.  The kids in the show and classroom become the "What if Kids!" as they are always experimenting!  The show reflects the scientific themes that are explored in the classroom.

Welcome to the Blog!

I am so excited to have this blog up and running for the start of the school year.  I am hoping that it will make things easier for my students and their families to stay connected with what's happening at school.  Take a few minutes to poke around and let me know what you think.  I will be adding new things often for parents and students.  Thanks for supporting this new extension into the 21st Century!
